Kikhosta

Definition:
Infektion med bakterien Bordetella pertussis som leder till hosta som håller i sig i upp till sex veckor med hostanfall och kraftiga inandningar (kikningar).
Förekomst:
Ökande förekomst i alla åldersgrupper, störst ökning bland tonåringar och vuxna. 603 rapporterade fall i Sverige 2015.
Symtom:
Den kliniska bilden kan variera mycket och beror på patientens ålder. Klassiska kikningar saknas ofta, särskilt efter barnaåren.
Kliniska fynd:
Kliniska fynd är beskedliga, ev. lätt rodnad i slemhinnor i övre luftvägar.
Diagnostik:
PCR är en känslig metod som ger snabbt svar, men bör tas inom tre-till fyra veckor efter symtomdebut.
Behandling:
Antibiotika har effekt om det ges inom tre veckor efter symtomdebut (bäst effekt i det katarrala stadiet).
