Definition:
En heterogen, icke-allergisk rinit som karakteriseras av kvarvarande symtom från näsan efter sex månader.
Förekomst:
Tämligen vanligt tillstånd.
Symtom:
Typiska symtom är kvarvarande nasal sekretion, nästäppa och ömhet/smärtor över bihålorna.
Kliniska fynd:
Purulent nasal sekretion. Andra kliniska fynd kan vara frånvarande, men hos några föreligger hypertrofi av slemhinnorna över nedre conchae, något som medför att det är trånga förhållanden eller att lumen är obstruerat.
Diagnostik:
Eventuell tilläggsundersökning kan vara allergitestning.
Behandling:
Behandlingen innebär att eliminera eventuellt utlösande faktorer. Läkemedelsbehandling och kortisonnässpray kan behöva användas ibland, kirurgiskt dränage är undantagsvis aktuellt.
