Definition:
Varaktig bullerskada eftersom känselcellerna i snäckan dör och dessa celler inte ersätts av nya – tillståndet klassificeras som en sensorineural hörselnedsättning.
Förekomst:
Relativt vanligt tillstånd.
Symtom:
I tidig fas märks hörselnedsättningen inte så mycket eftersom den drabbar diskanten och inte talområdet på 500–2 000 Hz.
Kliniska fynd:
Nedsatt hörsel vid viskning eller tal.
Diagnostik:
Audiometri.
Behandling:
Förebyggande åtgärder. Hörapparat och tekniska hjälpmedel.
