Amblyopi

Definition:
Nedsatt synskärpa på grund av onormal synutveckling i spädbarns- och tidig barnaålder.
Förekomst:
Prevalensen uppskattas till cirka 1–4 %.
Symtom:
Vårdnadshavarna är ofta de första som misstänker att barnet har svårigheter att se, när ögat skelar eller barnet håller huvudet snett för att se. Ofta upptäcks dock amblyopi vid kontroll på BVC.
Kliniska fynd:
Nedsatt syn på ögat vid visusundersökning.
Diagnostik:
Visusundersökning vid screening och vid misstänkt synnedsättning på BVC och elevhälsan ska föranleda remiss för vidare undersökning hos ortoptist/ögonläkare. Vid amblyopi kan den nedsatta synskärpan inte förklaras av någon sjukdom i ögat.
Behandling:
Det amblyopa ögat måste "tvingas att se". Detta uppnås genom korrektion av brytningsfel med glasögon, att det fungerande ögat täcks över i perioder, eller eventuellt genom användning av atropindroppar.
