Definition:
En progressiv opticus neuropati där skada på ganglionceller och retinala nervtrådar i nervus opticus ger synfältsbortfall (skotom).
Förekomst:
Prevalens i Europa för åldersgruppen 40–80 år är beräknad till 2,5 %. Snabbt stigande prevalens med ålder – i Sverige är prevalensen >10 % vid 80 års ålder.
Symtom:
Asymtomatiskt länge. Efterhand uppstår tilltagande synfältsbortfall, initialt som regel med paracentrala skotom.
Kliniska fynd:
Synfältsbortfall och exkaverad papill. Förhöjt ögontryck hos de flesta.
Diagnostik:
Utredning hos ögonläkare.
Behandling:
Individualiserad behandling som består av läkemedel, laserbehandling och/eller kirurgi.
