Förstoppning hos vuxna

Definition:
Hård avföring som kommer sällan och där onormal krystning ofta behövs. Specifika diagnoskriterier finns för funktionell (primär) förstoppning. Ofta är förstoppningen sekundär till andra tillstånd eller läkemedel. Förstoppning är ofta ett delsymtom vid IBS.
Förekomst:
Prevalensen av kronisk förstoppning är 10–15 %. Vanligare bland kvinnor och äldre.
Symtom:
Se Definition ovan. 
Kliniska fynd:
Eventuellt palpabla fekalier i kolon vid bukpalpation eller tecken på hemorrojder eller analfistlar vid rektuminspektion. Avföring i rektum kan vara ett obstipationstecken.
Diagnostik:
Blodstatus, och eventuell TSH, glukos och kalcium för utredning av bakomliggande orsaker. F-hb om symtomen tyder på kolorektalcancer . 
Behandling:
Egenbehandling med ökat fiberintag och fysisk aktivitet. Bulkmedel och laxermedel. Eventuellt åtgärd av bakomliggande orsak.
