Herpes genitalis

Definition:
En recidiverande sexuellt överförd sjukdom som beror på herpes simplex-virus 2 (HSV-2) eller herpes simplex-virus 1 (HSV-1). 
Förekomst:
I den vuxna befolkningen i Europa har cirka 60–90 % HSV 1-antikroppar och 5–40 % HSV 2-antikroppar. 
Symtom:
Vid primärinfektion med HSV-2 är runt 70 % asymtomatiska. Vid symtomatiska primärinfektioner kan förutom vesikler som bildar smärtsamma sår, även allmäntillståndet vara påverkat. Vid recidiv är symtomen mildare och kan föregås av prodromalsymtom.
Kliniska fynd:
Sårbildning i genitalområdet. Ibland förstorade lymfkörtlar i området. Vid primärinfektion kan feber ses.
Diagnostik:
Vid tveksamhet kring diagnosen kan lokalt prov tas för undersökning, vanligtvis PCR.
Behandling:
Peroral behandling med antivirala medel kan ges både för att förhindra skov, vid skov samt vid täta episoder för att förhindra uppkomsten av skov.
