Kyfos hos äldre

  • Kyfos är ett vanligt geriatriskt tillstånd som drabbar så många som 20 till 40 % av de äldre.
  • Tillståndet förekommer hos både kvinnor och män.
  • Osteoporos är ofta en underliggande faktor. Kotfraktur föreligger hos bara en tredjedel av dem med mest uttalad kyfos i bröstryggraden.
  • Kyfos kan leda till nedsatt fysisk funktionsförmåga, försämrad lungfunktion, fraktur och möjligen ökad mortalitetsrisk.
  • Den forskningsbaserade kunskapen är mycket bristfällig och prevalensen av tillståndet ökar.
