Frontotemporal demens

Definition:
En grupp av demenstillstånd med symtom som följd av karakteristisk progressiv atrofi av områden i frontalloben, temporalloben eller båda.
Förekomst:
Den vanligaste demensformen i åldersgruppen <50 år.
Symtom:
Tidig fas domineras av ändrad personlighet, socialt olämpligt beteende och låg sjukdomsinsikt. Ofta intakt minne initialt. Försämring av språkfunktioner.
Kliniska fynd:
Kvarstående kognitiv svikt och beteendeförändringar. Vid bildundersökning ses kortikal atrofi, mest uttalat frontotemporalt.
Diagnostik:
Kliniska kriterier kombinerat med bildundersökningar. Sjukdomsalstrande mutation ses vid ärftlig frontotemporal demens.
Behandling:
Organiserade stödåtgärder. Ingen åtgärd påverkar demensutvecklingen. Eventuellt SSRI vid depression, ångest eller beteendestörningar. Eventuellt logopedisk behandling vid språkstörning.
